Define :- They are non – cancerous growths of the womb (uterus) and also known as uterine leiomyoma’s. Fibroids are very common in women which around 70-80 percent have fibroids by the time they are 50. They are growths enclosed in capsules attached to the wall of your womb which don’t spread to others parts of your body. These tumors are also known as uterine fibroids, myomas, and fibromyomas. They grow from the smooth muscle layer and tissues and grow in size varying in different cases.Fibroids range from being too small to be seen with the naked eye to around the size of a basketball in some cases.
- Submucosal fibroids grow from the inner wall of your womb into the space inside your womb.
- They can become very large. Subserosal fibroids grow from the outside wall of your womb into your pelvic cavity.
- Intramural fibroids grow within the muscular wall of your womb; these are the most common.
Many women do not know much about fibroid uterus. The women who are overweight and obese are more like to develop fibroids than other women. They are more common in women from 30 to 50 years of age.Fibroids may produce menstrual irregularities in women and may cause infertility.There are different types of fibroids that may develop in different parts of the uterus.
